Reading in Italian is designed for learners who want a clear and reliable foundation in Italian spelling and pronunciation.
Because Italian is a phonetic and transparent language, knowing how to read a word also tells you how to pronounce it. Once you master the core rules, both reading and speaking become much easier and more natural.
This course can be followed on its own or alongside other beginner courses, as a reference you can return to whenever you need to review a sound or spelling pattern.
The course includes 9 short lessons, each focusing on a key aspect of Italian spelling and pronunciation:
- The Italian alphabet – Learn the correct pronunciation of all Italian letters.
- The letter C – Understand when “C” is soft or hard and how the sound changes.
- The letter G – Discover how “G” behaves.
- How to pronounce GLI and GN – Practice two essential and uniquely Italian sounds.
- The letter S – Learn when “S” is voiced or voiceless.
- How to pronounce SC – Master the pronunciation rules for this important combination.
- The letter Q – See how “Q” functions and how it is always pronounced.
- The letter Z – Recognise the two possible sounds of “Z”.
- How to pronounce double consonants – Understand and produce one of the key features of natural Italian pronunciation.
